U.S. Drone Attacks in Northern Pakistan Leave at least Ten Dead

A series of drone attacks launched by the United States has left at last ten people dead in the northern Pakistani region of North Waziristan.

As many as eight missiles were fired from five drones, striking two camps believed to be used by militants loyal to the Taliban and al-Qaeda. Initial reports from local authorities suggested four militants were killed in the strikes and at least three foreigners were among the dead.

The region, which borders Afghanistan, has been a central focus of the offensive against militant activity. While the U.S. has used several drone attacks in the region the practice is often criticized due to the number of civilian casualties attributed to the strikes.
