Miami Rain Changes Super Bowl Plans

World News Update by EQUITIES Magazine

The 2010 Super Bowl will be held in the Miami area and is the 10th to be hosted by the city. This year, however, heavy rain is causing logistical problems.

Overnight strong showers continued throughout the day on Monday with localized flood warnings in some areas of the Miami-Dade county.

So far, the New Orleans Saints practice session had to be moved from the University of Miami to the Miami Dolphins training center which has an indoor training option. The press conferences for Saints coach Sean Payton and selected players was also moved to the Dolphins site as well as postponed by nearly two hours.

With the rain expected to continue, organizers have moved Tuesday’s traditional media day from the playing field at the Dolphin Stadium to the hospitality area of the venue, said the NFL.

In the meantime, Rick Snyder is making waves after he announced his plans to kick off his campaign for governor with a Super Bowl advertisement. Snyder, who is an Ann Arbor businessman and Republican candidate for governor, has bought a 60-second TV ad during the Super Bowl. The ad will air on CBS stations across Michigan.

Super Bowl ads broadcast nationwide will cost as much as $2.6 million for 30 seconds, but Snyder's ad is purchased in cheaper local markets. His campaign declined to divulge the cost. Snyder did announce that he had raised $3.3 million -- including $2.6 million of his own money -- and has $1.4 million left for a campaign intended to make him more familiar to voters.
