Tony Award Winner Charles Nelson Reilly Dead at 76

Charles Nelson Reilly, winner of a Tony Award for his performance as Bud Frump in Broadway’s “How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying,” died on Friday of complications from pneumonia. He was 76-years-old.

Reilly was nominated for another Tony Award for his part in “Hello, Dolly!” in 1964. He was nominated once again in 1997 for directing “The Gin Game.”

While Reilly was incredible successful on the stage he is perhaps best remembered for his numerous appearances on the “Tonight Show” with Johnny Carson in which his bawdy language and play on words often had Johnny near tears.

Throughout the 1970s and 80s Reilly was a ubiquitous figure on the game show circuit with regular stops on “Match Game” and “Hollywood Squares.”
