Enos  Slaughter was born in North Carolina in 1916. In 1938, he joined the St. Louis Cardinals and helped lead them to a victory over the Boston Red Sox in the World Series with his great “Mad Dash” from first base to home plate during the eight innings, one of the greatest moments in all of professional baseball history.
