Microsoft reveals it's latest computer technology- "Surface"

The Microsoft Corporation (Nasdaq: MSFT) has introduced a new kind of computer to the technology world. The new computer is called "Surface". Surface is a touch screen computer that can also respond to objects with special barcodes attached to them. To interact with the screen all you have to do is touch and drag objects. The new machine can also respond to more than one touch at a time. Surface is a PC in a coffee-table looking base with a touch screen on top.

T-Mobile stores are planning to use Surface as a way to help customers pick out cell phones and calling plans. Customer will be able to set a phone down, which has a special barcode on it, and view all features of the phone. Surface will also enable customers to select calling plans and ring tones for the phone they select by dragging icons over to the phone.

Other companies plan to use Surface for booking reservations, show tickets, ordering food, and even viewing digital photographs.

Surface will start out with a price between $5,000 and $10,000 per machine. Microsoft expects prices to drop with in the next three to five years.

An analyst at Jupiter research says that Surface is "important for Microsoft as a promising new business, as well as demonstrating very concretely to the market that Microsoft still knows how to innovate, and innovate in a big way."
