It didn’t take Venus Williams long to reach the third round at the 2007 French Open and she got there in quick fashion with a 128 mph serve on Wednesday against Ashley Harkleroad.
Williams handled Harkleroad 6-1 in the first set and then had her 5-2 in the second before Ashley broke the American twice to force the tiebreaker. Williams then fought off five set points to take the set 7-6 (10-8) and win the match.
Justine Henin, the top-ranked woman at Roland Garros, had an easier time in her second round match-up. The Belgian easily disposed of Austrian Tamira Paszek in straight sets 7-5, 6-1.
