French Open: Lleyton Hewitt Rallies from Two Sets Down to Advance

It took a dramatic turnaround but two-time Grand Slam champion Lleyton Hewitt overcame a two set deficit at Roland Garros to beat Gaston Gaudio 4-6, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4, 6-2 to advance to the third round of the 2007 French Open.

Gaudio, the 2004 French Open winner, capitalized on Hewitt’s 25 unforced errors in the first two sets to grab the commanding lead and looked poised to win consecutive matches for just the second time this year.

It wasn’t to be though as Hewitt managed to break Gaudio’s serve twice in the third set to get back into the match. Hewitt then set the tone in the fourth set by breaking Gaudio’s opening serve and did the same in the deciding set, eventually winning the match.

For Hewitt, the victory was a bit of revenge against Gaudio who beat him in the 2004 French Open quarterfinals.
