Venus Williams became the latest American to be bounced from the French Open on Friday as the 26-year-old fell 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 to fourth-seeded Jelena Jankovic at Roland Garros on Friday.
Jankovic was nearly unstoppable in her service game during the first set. The 22-year-old Serb tallied 20 of the 24 points played in the opening set to keep Williams from ever having a chance to build momentum.
The second set was more kind to Venus who jumped to a 3-0 lead and then broke Jankovic’s serve in the 10th game to even the match at a set a piece.
By the third set Williams looked exhausted and Jankovic pounced on the American’s serve, breaking her three times and easily disposing of the five-time major winner.
