Since Rosie O’Donnell has left "The View", they have to find someone with the same brashness as O’Donnell to take her place. After O’Donnell became a host on "The View" ratings went up and so did her list of enemies. She left the ABC talk show early after an on-air confrontation with co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck.
"The View" wants to find someone similar to Rosie to fill the position. Some possible candidates have been listed like Roseanne Barr, Whoppi Goldberg, Bette Midler, Ricki Lake, and Sherri Shepherd. Other people have made that list like Kathy Griffin, Wanda Sykes, and Gail King, Oprah’s best friend.
Roseanne Barr says that she wants the job but many think that Kathy Griffin would be a good choice. In Touch magazine said that Griffin would be a great choice because she is similar to Rosie in many ways.
"She’s very similar to Rosie in a lot of ways," said Dan Wakeford editor of In Touch. "She elicits strong reactions like Rosie. Love her or hate her, you have a reaction which makes great TV."
Some think that the shows hosts might prefer someone a "little less dramatic" and "someone who’s easier to manage".
Ken Tucker, a pop culture critic, questions whether anyone can match Rosie’s personality. He says that the talk show should look for someone with a different personality. He thinks that "The View" should hire Wanda Sykes fill the role Star Jones left after exiting the show last year and make co-host Joy Behar the "moderator".
"She is somebody who could be the moderator and the kind of voice of reason to keep things going when everybody starts talking over each other." Tucker said.
