Following charges against a former campaign backer Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama plans to donate a $5,000 contribution to his 2004 Senate campaign to charity.
The questionable contribution came from Ali Ata, the former executive of the Illinois Financial Authority. Ata was charged on Thursday in connection with a scheme to aid Antoin Rezko in securing a $10 million loan.
None of this sits well with Obama who has been dealing with questions about his relationship with Rezko for some time now. Not only did Rezko, along with his wife, contribute a total of $11,500 to Obama’s 2004 Senate campaign, the senator sought Rezko out for advice on a real estate purchase despite the fact that Rezko was under investigation for corruption charges at the time.
After Rezko was indicted on the charges Obama donated the contribution to the Better Boys Foundation in Chicago.
