Obama Emphasizes Necessity of ‘Civility’ in Nation’s Capital

Finance World News Update by EQUITIES Magazine

President Barack Obama said today that he prays lawmakers can restore a “spirit of civility” to the nation’s capital. The president was speaking at the annual National Prayer breakfast.

Obama acknowledged that divisions in Washington aren’t a new problem, but said that “there is a sense that something is different now, that something is broken, that those of us in Washington aren’t serving people as well as we should.” He cited American leaders’ ability to unite in times of crisis, such as the earthquake in Haiti last month, but said that lawmakers can become absorbed by ideology and power contests.

He urged leaders to be empowered by faith to bridge division and unite around common goals.
