Sarah Palin Scheduled to Speak at Tea Party National Convention

Former vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin is scheduled to speak at the first national convention of the Tea Party movement being held in Nashville.

While the appearance of Palin provides a big name to the Tea Party cause there are many inside the movement that have expressed anger about her $100,000 appearance fee. Palin has tried to quell that anger by assuring members that she would not benefit financially from her speaking engagement.

Palin was quoted as saying “My only goal is to support the grassroots activists who are fighting for responsible, limited government - and our constitution. In that spirit, any compensation for my appearance will go right back to the cause.”

Palin’s appearance fee isn’t the only issue taken up by Tea Party members as the $500 registration fee has also raised controversy. Members of the grassroots movement have said the idea of paying such a high fee is already taking power from the people of the party and placing it in the hands of a few. That is in conflict with the movements ground-up swell that has made it an influential voice in many of the key issues now being debated.
