“Pirates of the Caribbean” Keeps Top Spot, “Knocked Up” Knocks Down Shrek

“Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s Ends” topped the box office for the second straight weekend after bringing in an additional $43.2 million, pushing its domestic gross total to $216.5 million since its Memorial Day weekend release.

While ‘Pirates’ isn’t quite hitting the numbers of last year’s ‘Dead Man’s Chest’ it is raking up the bucks overseas. With another $105.4 million in international ticket sales ‘Pirates’ has hit $625.3 million in worldwide sales.

Taking advantage of a blockbuster free weekend debut the Judd Apatow comedy “Knocked Up” brought in $29.3 million to take the second spot at the box-office. The gross equaled the production cost of the film and should translate into a huge profit for Universal.

In its third weekend “Shrek the Third” held the three spot with an additional $26.7 million to bring its total haul to $254.6 million.
