The Mattapan School of Technology Launches Free Immigration Clinic For Haitians

A helping hand to the Erthquake Victims

On Saturday, February 6th, from 9am to 5pm, at their main computer lab located at 24 Regis Rd, in Mattapan, MA, the students of the Mattapan School of Technology in collaboration with local religious leaders have organized a free immigration clinic to help Haitian migrants filling TPS and Work Authorization forms.

Several volunteers will be available on this special occasion and many local immigration lawyers have volunteered to assist with the legal aspect of this humanitarian initiative. Free assistance will also be available by phone at (617) 696-6852 for those who live outside Massachusetts and cannot attend.

President Obama’s TPS order will allow 100,000 to 200,000 Haitians essentially trapped in the US after the earthquake to remain here lawfully and to file for work authorization documents. However, these newcomers don’t have either money to pay for this service or sufficient English to fill the forms alone and are at risk of becoming victims of scams.

The Mattapan School of Technology that usually provides technology job training has been engaged in many family support projects to assist Haitian migrants since the January 12th earthquake.
