Kathy Toth will be among 62 women who will be honored during a Pink Ribbon Ceremony on Ford Field on October 5, prior to the start of the Detroit Lions game. The ceremony is part of the Detroit Lions breast cancer awareness campaign, in partnership with the National Football League and the American Cancer Society.
October 5 is the Lions official “A Crucial Catch” game. The goal of the campaign is to stress the importance of early detection of breast cancer.
As part of the event, the 62 breast cancer survivors will participate in a pre-game yoga stretch, and be treated to a VIP brunch. They will have opportunities to participate in the Fan Tunnel. A breast cancer awareness flag will be displayed on the field prior to the game.
For Ann Arbor Realtor Kathy Toth, breast cancer awareness is a personal issue. After being diagnosed with the early stages of breast cancer several years ago, she took aggressive measures to combat the disease.
“Breast cancer is a very personal, invasive and potentially deadly disease that women do not want to think about,” says Toth. “But the risk is real. Statistically, one woman out of every eight will be diagnosed with it. I can say from personal experience that early detection is the key to beating breast cancer.”
Toth further explains what breast cancer awareness campaigns mean to her. “When I think “awareness” it’s more than acknowledging that breast cancer exists. By awareness, I hope that women understand “this means you.” A mammogram could help save your life. It helped save mine.”
