The SHOWER SHIRT™ Co., Introduces ‘Plus’ Size Shower Shirt Garment for Mastectomy Surgery Patients
The SHOWER SHIRT Co., LLC, has recently introduced the first ‘Plus’ size Shower Shirt garment for mastectomy surgery patients.
The creator, Lisa F. Crites, a Central Florida breast-cancer survivor invented the original SHOWER SHIRT™ product in 2011 - and with the increased demand for water-resistant coverings for mastectomy, dialysis, and general chest surgery patients, the company has now introduced a larger Plus size option.
The inspiration behind the original Shower Shirt product, which helps protect against the risk of post-surgical infections, came after Crites was told she couldn’t shower for two to three weeks after her bi-lateral mastectomy, and before the surgical drains were removed.
“There were no protective products for mastectomy patients to shower in, so I created this product to keep women from utilizing trash bags after surgery, as I was required to do,” said Lisa Crites, The SHOWER SHIRT Co., Principal/Inventor.
On the market in the United States for nearly three years, The SHOWER SHIRT™ is a patented Class 1 Medical Device; sold online at Walmart.com, CureDiva.com, and multiple mastectomy boutiques and hospital-based retail locations across the US. In addition, the product is sold internationally in Canada, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Israel.
“The Shower Shirt is a great product to protect breast cancer patients from water intrusion to the surgical sites after mastectomy surgery,” said Emran Imami, MD, FACS, and FAPWCA. “Taking a shower without protection can be problematic. Tap water is laden with bacteria which in turn can increase the chance of a surgical site infection.”
