CBS executives announced Wednesday that "Jericho" will be retuning to TV. CBS canceled the drama after the show had to compete with "American Idol" last season. Due to fans uproar about the cancellation CBS decided to put the show back on air.
Fans sent thousands of pounds of nuts (a reference to a line on the show) to CBS top executives and thousands of emails protesting the cancellation. Seven new episodes of "Jericho" will air mid-season.
"Over the past few weeks you have put forth an impressive and probably unprecedented display of passion in support of a prime time television series ," said Nina Tassler, CBS Entertainment president. "You got our attention; your emails and collective voice have been heard."
Although the show is going back on air Tassler told fans that the shows audience must grow. To help increase the shows fan base CBS said they will be broadcasting the first season of "Jericho" over the summer, put episodes online, and release the first season on DVD in stores soon. Tassler said CBS has not decided when the apocalyptic drama will return and they thank "Jericho" fans for "expressing their support."
"Your protest was creative, sustained and very thoughtful and respectful in tone," Tassler said. "You made a difference."
