Akon may be facing charges over violently throwing a fan off stage at his concert in Fishkill, New York on Sunday. A video is circulating on the internet that shows Akon helping a guy on stage and then lifting him over his shoulders and throwing him off the stage into the audience.
The police began a search for the man who was thrown off the stage. The police wanted to locate the person who was thrown off stage because they might need to question the man if he was going to press charges. It turns out that the guy who was thrown was not a man; he was a fifteen year old boy. The boy’s mother contacted the police, but no charges have been filed yet.
A statement was released by Akon’s lawyer, Benjamin Brafman, stating that the rapper was not engaged in "any sort of criminal act."
"Given the information that we have reviewed to date, it does not appear to us that Akon was involved in any criminal conduct whatsoever. We are prepared to cooperate fully with any law enforcement agency that may be investigating this incident. We are confident that after a thorough investigation it will be apparent that no criminal prosecution of Akon is warranted."
This is not the first time that a video has gotten the singer of "Smack That" and "Don’t Matter" into hot water. A video of Akon "simulating sex" on stage with a girl was brought to light in May. The girl turned out to be 15-years-old. Akon issued an apology to the girl and her family saying, , "I want to sincerely apologize for the embarrassment and any pain I've caused to the young woman who joined me onstage, her family and the Trinidad community for the events at my concert."
As a result of that incident, Verizon stopped sponsoring Akon’s tour with Gwen Stefani.
