Concerned that certain ground beef products may be contaminated with the E.coli bacteria, United Food Group voluntarily recalled 370,000 pounds of their ground beef to quell the public’s fear.
It was actually the California State Department of Health Services who raised concerns about the company’s products. In a statement made by Todd Waldman, senior vice president for United Food Group, he said “Our company's paramount concern is for the safety and health of consumers who have purchased our products, and we have been working closely with the USDA and the California Department of Health Services to ensure that this additional recall is completed successfully.”
Packaged under the brand names Basha’s, Inter-American Products, Inc., Miller Meat Company, Moran’s All Natural, and Stater Bros. the ground beef was shipped to grocery stores in Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.
Stores affected by the recall in those states include Albertson's, Basha's, Grocery Outlet, Fry's, "R" Ranch Markets, Save-A-Lot, Save-Mart, Scolari's Wholesale Markets, Smart and Final, Smith's, Stater Bros., and Superior Warehouse.
United Food Group had already recalled 75,000 pounds of ground beef when they elected to recall the additional products. Products affected by the recall had sell-by dates from April 29 through May 6 and carried a product number ‘EST. 1241.’
