Isaiah Washington Dropped from Grey’s Anatomy
Isaiah Washington won’t be back next season to fill the shoes of Preston Burke on ABC’s hit show Grey’s Anatomy. The network declined to renew Washington’s contract due in large part to his inability to coexist with other cast members.
Washington’s publicist confirmed that his client was told he would not be invited back.
Most people point to Washington’s very public battle with co-star T.R. Knight which led to a stint in a treatment center for Isaiah. While in an argument with another cast mate Washington referred to Knight as a “faggot” and then after denying he used the term towards Knight he repeated it at the Golden Globe Awards in January.
Washington’s behavior at the Golden Globes sparked outrage by gay rights groups and they demanded he be fired by the network. Just days after the awards show Knight publicly announced that he was gay and Washington said he would voluntarilt seek treatment for undisclosed issues.
As part of his amends to Knight and the network Washington taped a public service announcement for GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation).
Grey’s Anatomy will be entering its fourth season.
