Paris Hilton goes back to court on Friday which could lead to her being put behind bars again. Hilton is ordered to report at the court house at 9 a.m. She will be picked up from her Hollywood Hills home by a sheriff’s car and transported to the court house.
The problems began Thursday when the jail released Hilton, 26, after only serving three full days of her 23 day sentence because of medical problems. Hilton was fitted with an ankle bracelet and put on house arrest.
Although Superior Court Judge Michael T. Sauer specifically stated the hotel heiress was not allowed to serve her time on house arrest Sheriff Lee Baca made the decision to let her do just that and said his decision was based on medical advice.
"It isn't wise to keep a person in jail with her problem over an extended period of time and let the problem get worse," Baca expressed on Thursday to the Loa Angeles Times.
"My message to those who don't like celebrities is that punishing celebrities more than the average American is not justice," Baca said.
Sauer issued the order for the "Simple Life" star to return to court late Thursday after a petition was filed by the city attorney demanding Hilton go back to jail to serve her time and demanding the reason why Baca should not be held in contempt of court.
"What transpired here is outrageous," said county Supervisor Don Knabe. Knabe said he received more than 400 phone calls and emails from around the country from people who are angry over Hilton’s release.
Jail officials and attorneys said it is a common thing for nonviolent offenders to be released from jail after serving little time because the jail system is overcrowded.
Hilton issued a statement through her attorney thanking the Sheriff’s department and staff of the jail.
"I want to thank the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and staff of the Century Regional Detention Center for treating me fairly and professionally," Hilton said. "I am going to serve the remaining 40 days of my sentence. I have learned a great deal from this ordeal and hope that others have learned from my mistakes."
Hilton’s license was revoked and she was put on probation after she was pulled over and failed a sobriety test. She was pulled over again and found driving with a suspended license. Hilton was sentenced to 23 days in jail after she was found guilty of violation of probation.
