Detroit Lions Return From the Bye Week to Control the NFC North

The NFC North is a two-team race heading into the second half of the season. The Lions hold the lead in the division with the Green Bay Packers directly behind them. The two teams will face off head to head in the final game of the season, which could determine who goes to the playoffs and who goes home in January. In eight games this season, the Lions have only dropped two contests. One was to the Carolina Panthers in week 2, and the other came against the Buffalo Bills in week 5.

Detroit has been battling the injury bug in recent weeks with Calvin Johnson and Reggie Bush both missing games. Over the past few years the Lions have thrived off of the dynamic offense behind Matthew Stafford. In the absence of Calvin Johnson, the newly signed free agent wide receiver Golden Tate has filled the shoes of Megatron. Reggie Bush not being in the lineup has certainly not helped the Lions rushing attack as they rank 31st in terms of rushing yards in the league.

Where Detroit has been excelling is on the defensive side of the ball. The Lions defense has been playing lights out this season. They give up the fewest amounts of points in the league, the least amount of yards given up, and rank 5th against the pass and 2nd against the run. The dominant defense has been giving teams nightmares lead by their captain Ndamukong Suh. His partner in crime that plays next to him is Nick Fairley who will be out some time with a dinged up knee. If Detroit can fight the injury bug they will be in a great position to make a postseason run.
