PGA golfer John Daly told police on Friday that his wife, Sherrie Daly, attacked him with a steak knife after the two had an argument at a restaurant in Memphis, Tennessee Thursday evening.
Daly is playing in the Stanford St. Jude Championship and when he arrived on Friday he had red marks on his cheeks. While the 1991 PGA Championship and 1995 British Open champion didn’t talk to reporters he did release a statement saying that he was a “victim of an assault by my wife.”
The former PGA Rookie of the Year called police early on Friday to report the incident and when they arrived at his residence in Cordova, Tenn. Sherrie and the couple’s four children were gone. Sheriff’s deputies searched the house but could not find the knife that Daly claimed she used in the attack.
Daly shot a 4-over 74 on Friday and is sitting 11 shots behind leader Adam Scott.
