Man Accused of Plotting to Kidnap Son of David Letterman Escapes from Jail

A man who once plotted to kidnap the son of David Letterman escaped from a Montana prison ranch on Friday after stealing a truck.

Kelley A. Frank had been serving time for felony theft and misdemeanor obstruction when he stole a work truck and fled with fellow inmate William J. Willcutt.

Letterman had hired Frank to do some painting work on a ranch he owned in Montana a few years back. In March 2005 police arrested Frank on allegations that he had orchestrated a plan to kidnap Letterman’s 1 ½ year-old son. Frank was later charged for lying to investigators and overcharging Letterman on the work he did at the ranch.

The allegations related to the kidnapping plot were dropped in order to secure guilty pleas on three other charges. Frank had been serving a 10 year sentence when he escaped on Friday.
