Tony Parker scored 30 points, Manu Ginobili added 25 points and grabbed 6 rebounds and Tim Duncan finished with 23 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists as the San Antonio Spurs jumped out to a huge lead and held on to beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 103-92 in game two and take a 2-0 series lead in the NBA Finals.
It all started well enough for the Cavalier as LeBron James hit the games first jumper for a quick 2-0 lead but it was all down hill from there for Cleveland. Within four minutes the Cavaliers were trailing by ten. They knocked the lead down to three but the Spurs countered with a 12-0 run to move in front 28-13, and settled with an 11 point lead after one.
Parker, Ginobili and Duncan then dominated the second quarter tallying 28 of the Spurs 30 points in the period and giving the Spurs a 25 point advantage at halftime. Duncan scored ten, Parker added nine and Ginobili finished with nine in the game’s deciding frame.
The third quarter was more of the same as the big three once again accounted for the majority of the Spurs 31 points. Bruce Bowen and Robert Horry each hit three-pointers to provide the only other offense for the Spurs as Parker dropped ten more points and Ginobili added another nine, six coming from the free-throw line.
San Antonio seemed to enter the fourth quarter with little interest and sat back as the Cavaliers tried to climb back into a game they trailed by 27 points. Cleveland went on a 25-6 run in the first seven minutes of the quarter to cut their deficit to 95-87 but the Spurs quickly reasserted themselves with a three-pointer from Ginobili at the 2:24 mark for an 11 point lead and the Cavaliers had nothing left in the tank.
LeBron James finished with 25 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists in the loss.
The series will now shift to Cleveland where both teams will meet in game three of their best of seven series on Tuesday.
