A French aid worker kidnapped in Chad three months ago has been freed by his captors and is said to be on his way to the Sudanese capital of Khartoum before heading back home.
According to the International Committee of the Red Cross Laurent Maurice appeared to be in good health but will be checked out when he arrives in Khartoum. Maurice had been working as an agronomist in the village of Kawa last November, near the border of Sudan, when he was kidnapped.
In learning of Maurice’s release the head of the ICRC’s mission in Sudan, Jordi Raich, stated, “The ICRC is relieved that Laurent is now free, and happy that he will soon be back with his family and friends.”
