Winter Snowstorms Paralyzes Much of Mid Atlantic, D.C. Facing Heaviest Snowfall in Nearly a Century

Tens of thousands of people have been left without electricity and confined to their homes as a massive storm dumping record levels of snow has paralyzed much of the Mid Atlantic states in the United States.

Washington D.C. has already been hit by more than two feet of snow, shutting down the Washington-Baltimore areas three main airports, closing roads and leaving more than 150,000 homes without power. With snow and ice weighing down trees and power lines those power outages could rise significantly.

Dubbed “snowpocalypse” by the media, the winter storm has stretched from Indiana into Pennsylvania and hit parts of New York and down into North Carolina.

Now area has been hit worse than D.C. which will likely surpass the record level of snow that fell nearly 90 years ago. With roads already called “impassable” and the bus service shut down most residents have been confined to their homes, waiting for the storm to end.

That wait could be awhile as people have been told to prepare to stay inside for up to five days.
