Creator of “Sopranos” won’t explain shows ending

"Sopranos" viewers each had a different opinion about the show's series finale that aired on HBO. Viewers felt like they had been left hanging after the show never revealed for sure whether mob boss Tony Soprano was killed or not.

The season finale showed Tony Soprano and his family in a diner eating when a person came in who looked like a hit man. The "hit man" went into the restroom behind Tony Soprano where he was expected to come out and kill the whole family when the screen went black. Angry fans were left to make their own assumptions.

"No one was trying to be audacious, honest to God. We did what we thought we had to do. No one was trying to blow people's minds or thinking, 'Wow, this'll (tick) them off," said show creator David Chase who went to France to avoid all the excitement caused by the final episode.

Viewers speculate about the shows ending being a way for there to be a "Sopranos" movie. Chase denied those speculations saying "I don’t think about a movie much. I never say never. An idea could pop into my head where I would go, 'Wow, that would make a great movie,' but I doubt it,"

"I'm not being coy. If something appeared that really made a good 'Sopranos' movie, and you could invest in it and everybody else wanted to do it, I would do it. But I think we've kind of said it and done it."

"People get the impression that you're trying to (mess) with them, and it's not true. You're trying to entertain them."' Chase added.

Chase says he won’t defend the last show. "I have no interest in explaining, defending, reinterpreting, or adding to what is there," he said.
