“Mr. Wizard” Don Herbert Dies at 89

“Mr. Wizard” Don Herbert, the man who brought the world of science into America’s living rooms from 1951 to 1964 with the ‘Watch Mr. Wizard” show, died on Tuesday from bone cancer. He was 89.

Herbert was credited with sparking the interest of children in the field of science with his weekly experiments and discoveries. Mr. Wizard had a gift of taking complex ideas and explaining them in a manner that children and adults could understand.

In 1953 Herbert was awarded the Peabody Award for his work on “Watch Mr. Wizard.” Herbert then created “Mr. Wizard’s World” in 1983 and it aired on Nickelodeon until 1990.
