Kelly A. Frank, the man accused of plotting to kidnap David Letterman’s son, was captured today after he escaped from a prison farm with another man last Friday.
Frank and William J. Willcutt escaped from a Montana State Prison farm. Authorities immediately began a search for the missing men. Frank and Willcutt are believed to have stolen the farm's pick up truck which was recovered hours after the men were discovered to be missing.
In March 2005 police arrested Frank on allegations that he had orchestrated a plan to kidnap Letterman’s 1 ½ year-old son. Frank was later charged for lying to investigators and overcharging Letterman on the work he did at the ranch.
The allegations related to the kidnapping plot were dropped in order to secure guilty pleas on three other charges. Frank had been serving a 10 year sentence when he escaped on Friday.
Frank had a criminal background when he began working for Letterman. At the time he worked as a painter he had been convicted of stalking and intimidating a woman but was on "supervised release."
After Frank’s escape officials warned that the two escapees were armed and dangerous. Police discovered a vehicle abandoned in the woods and traced it back to a man who said three weapons had also been stolen from his house.
Frank would have been eligible for parol in three months.Willcutt is still missing.
