Despite ranking sixth in the National League in batting average and eighth in runs scored the Los Angeles Dodgers fired hitting coach Eddie Murray on Thursday.
General manager Ned Colletti said that the decision to let Murray go had been considered for some time and the Dodgers front office felt like the time to let the Hall of Famer go was now. Colletti expressed frustration with the club’s offense as reason for the decision stating, “We feel like there's a lot of the season left and the offense can be a lot better than it is.”
Murray received the news following a Dodgers 9-1 victory and a three-game sweep over the NL East leading New York Mets.
Former American League batting champion Bill Mueller will serve as interim head coach until a permanent decision is made for the position.
