John Edwards Wants Time Not Money

John Edwards organized a birthday fundraiser to celebrate his 54th birthday. He did not want money, instead he urged his supporters to donate their time to help marshal his campaign.

Edwards was not having a lavish setting with a thousand dollar a plate meal. Instead, the fundraiser offered barbecue and pie, and the entrance fee was a paltry $15. This was quite unlike what is usually seen at most presidential campaign fundraisers.

"If you want to see big, bold change in this country -- your country needs you. It needs you badly," Edwards told the 500 odd people who attended the birthday fundraiser. "The great movements in the American history did not start in the Oval Office, they started out across America."

Edwards said that many grass-root movements in the past began with the nation’s youth. This was said to motivate many college students from the University of North Carolina, Edwards’ alma mater. He compared the current need for change to the Civil Rights movement and ending the war in Vietnam.

He urged his supporters to give volunteer time instead of donations to help bring about the change which he said was the need of the hour.

Edwards said his presidency would immediately focus on nipping terrorism from the root which would bring out positive change in the entire world like economic development in third word countries and ending genocide in Sudan. He gave assurance that he would shut down the prison at Guantanamo Bay Naval Base in Cuba on the first day in office.

"This could come back to haunt the Edwards campaign if voters feel that he is being dishonest" says Kavita Masthoff of USAElectionPolls.com
