Tony Parker scored 24 points and grabbed 7 rebounds, Manu Ginobili added 27 points and Tim Duncan controlled the boards with 15 rebounds as the San Antonio Spurs knocked off the Cleveland Cavaliers 83-82 to win their fourth NBA championship since 1999.
The Cavaliers trailed 60-52 entering the fourth quarter but opened the period on an 11-0 run to grab a 63-60 lead and looked primed to force a game five in Cleveland but the Spurs had other ideas.
With the score tied at 66-66 Manu Ginobili buried a three-pointer and Fabricio Oberto ran off five straight points as the Spurs built an eight point advantage with two minutes left on the clock. LeBron James cut the San Antonio lead to five with a long three-pointer and after Ginobili missed a three-point attempt the Cavs had a chance to cut into the lead further but James turned the ball over and Ginobili hit a close range shot to put the Spurs back in front by seven with just over a minute left in the game.
LeBron was able to get the Cavs to within two after hitting his second three-pointer of the quarter with four ticks on the clock but Ginobili sealed the game with a pair of free-throws before Damon Jones sank a last second three-pointer for the final points of the Cavaliers’ season.
Tony Parker was named the MVP of the NBA Finals after averaging 24.5 points in the four-game sweep and hit 57 percent of his shots.
