American Idol Finalist Dexter Roberts took the “country” by storm with his simple man style and his southern roots. Now the 23 year-old self-taught singer/songwriter will be releasing his first single “Dream About Me” on iTunes January 20th, 2015.
“It’s such a blessing,” says Dexter. “I’m back, I’m healthy, and I’m ready to get to work.”
In July, Dexter was infected with Rocky Mountain spotted tick fever during a hunting trip, forcing him to miss most of the Idol Tour and putting his career on hold.
“I was so disappointed in missing the tour, but man was I really down and out. Thankfully the good Lord is in control,” continues Dexter, “now I’m having the time of my life in the studio working on my first album.”
Dexter recently signed a recording contract with First Launch Records, an upstart indie label founded by Grammy nominated writer, producer/engineer Erik Nelson.
“Dexter is such a raw talent,” explains Nelson, “it’s just a great vibe to have a guy like this in the studio.”
Dexter, who has been doing some writing in Nashville, was recently spotted at the CMA’s and local festivities. Seems he is making himself right at home during his Nashville visits, recently sitting in on a couple sets at some of the famous main street honkytonks. What’s next for Fayette, Alabama’s Dexter Robert’s?
“An EP out in early 2015 with an album to follow,” says Dexter. “Management is currently working on an early spring tour and we already have a few fairs and festivals booked for this summer.”
