New research indicates that Polyglot Systems’ flagship solution, Meducation® is an important tool in improving medication adherence and patient satisfaction among low heath literate diabetic patients in India.
Meducation creates simplified medication instructions, in any of 19 languages, with larger font sizes, pictograms and videos, to make understanding how to take medications intuitive and simple.
The RTI International funded study, presented by Vishwanath et. al at the 2014 American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) conference, assessed the impact of using Meducation to communicate medication instructions at a diabetes clinic with Malayalam speaking patients in Kunlanda, Kerala, India. Control and Meducation intervention groups were evaluated to assess diabetes knowledge, medication adherence, and treatment satisfaction. Results revealed that patients using the Meducation handouts showed positive changes in their patterns of medication adherence and diabetes self-care while also indicating strong satisfaction with the helpfulness of Meducation handouts when compared to controls.
“This study demonstrates the universal need for simpler medication instructions regardless of which language you speak.” said Polyglot Founder Dr. Charles Lee “Meducation’s potential to reach and impact even remote areas of the world is gratifying.”
Polyglot seeks to deliver the same results to hospitals and pharmacies in the US and help them take critical steps towards improving the overall quality of patient care. Meducation is designed as a cloud based software application. This allows for easy integration with electronic medical records or pharmacy management systems and quick deployment by virtually any provider.
