Is The Failure Of The Immigration Bill The End Of John McCain?
The immigration bill was suppose to be John McCain’s ticket to the US presidency to a certain extend. He read the pulse of wanted the people wanted and decided that if he wanted to be the next president, he would have to do something that would give the voters what they wanted while safe-guarding American interests.
He was one of the main architects of the immigration bill. He championed the bill which was very unpopular with the other conservatives. The result -- Republicans votes 38-7 against the bill. Though McCain did say that this was not the bill he had drafted.
Now McCain has to move on with his campaign rather than dwell on the failure of the immigration bill. He should concentrate on debating individual issues rather than taking another bill to the Senate floor.
Whether the failed immigration bill will have any repercussions on McCain’s presidential campaign can only be ascertained after some time. For now, there is no doubt it will be viewed as a failure on McCain’s part, and he will have to work hard to cover the lost ground.
