Election 2008 -- Who Will Be The Democrats’ Candidate?

The Democratic presidential debate took place in New Hampshire on June 4, 2007, but no one was really a winner. However, Sen Joe Biden did impress the analysts.

Out of the seven presidential candidates that took part in the debate, it was Biden who stood out. He was the only one who was very forceful and explained his stance on issues in a very clear-cut manner right through the debate.

His explanation on why he voted for a bill funding the war in Iraq was to the point and extremely precise. He was the only candidate who said that he supports military intervention in the Dafur province of Sudan.

However, Kavita Masthoff, an analyst from USAElectionPolls.com, did not feel that Biden was forceful enough to pose a threat to New York Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton and Illinois Senator Barack Obama, who are the leading Democratic presidential candidates.

The most disappointing performance was Gov. Bill Richardson. He spent the debate reminding everyone that he was the governor and running through his resume. Though, he claimed to have the most experience on issues of immigration, health care, foreign policy, and the conflict in Darfur.

With Democrats clearly divided on various issues, one wonders whether Clinton and Obama will be able to sustain the momentum. Though, a recent poll suggests that the Democrats are favored to win the elections in 2008, with 70 percent of Democrat voters thinking that Clinton has the knowledge and experience to be a good president.
