Alcoholism the catalyst for Rip Torn's problems - revisits rehabilitation
Alcoholism and alcohol abuse is being cited as the catalyst for the actor's latest public problems.
CONNECTICUT- Salisbury, a small, quiet, picturesque town, in the far northwestern portion of the state made headlines earlier this week. This upscale town was the setting of a would-be bank robbery… or was it?
Award-winning actor, Rip Torn, was found in the lobby of a local bank branch wandering around, unsteady and confused. With his cowboy boots and wool cap left neatly at the door, the only thing out of place was the broken window and, of course Rip Torn himself.
Police arrived and Mr. Torn tested at 2 ½ times the legal limit for alcohol. And the broken window? Easily explained- Mr. Torn thought he had arrived at his home, his key wouldn’t work and broke the window to get in.
“From the perspective of a person who isn’t an alcoholic, this behavior really seems unbelievable”, remarks a spokesperson from Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment, just 8 short miles from where the incident occurred. “It’s hard to imagine how a person can allow alcohol—or any drug for that matter-- to take control of his life and cause him to do things he would never otherwise do. The power of alcohol and drugs is just not understood by the vast majority of people. As we see with Mr. Torn, there are no boundaries when dealing with addiction. They affect anyone, without regard to race, social or economic status. It’s so important to have supportive individuals on the side of the addicted person—to let them know they care, to let them know they understand and most of all, to let them know there is help for them to overcome this demon they constantly fight.” Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center is a comprehensive and innovative provider of treatment for individuals suffering from drug addiction and alcoholism.
