Orlando Bloom will allow the pirate ship to dock for awhile while he places his sea legs onto the stage of London’s famous West End in David Storey’s “In Celebration” next month.
It will be Bloom’s first go at the stage since his professional career took off with the aid of “The Lord of the Rings” and “Pirates of the Caribbean.” Bloom told reporters, ““I have been kind of desperate to do a play for the longest time and this opportunity came up when I met this director, Anna Mackmin, who I’m now working with on a play called In Celebration - a play by David Storey. I was just hungering for an opportunity to be part of an ensemble cast in a great play. It’s a phenomenal play.”
Scheduled to run ten weeks at the West End’s Duke of York’s theater, “In Celebration” was first performed at the Royal Court and follows the displays the affects of good intentions gone awry in one family.
Bloom will portray one of three brothers who returns home for a family reunion that only opens up old wounds.
The play hits the stage on July 26.
