Terry Hoeppner, the former head football coach at Indiana University, died on Tuesday morning from complications from a brain tumor. Hoeppner was 59-years-old.
Indiana athletic director Rick Greenspan hired Hoeppner in Dec. 2004 in hopes that he could make the Hoosiers a force in the Big Ten. In his two seasons as head coach Hoeppner compiled a 9-14 record. He took a medical leave from coaching in March 2007 and assistant Bill Lynch was named to be his replacement for the 2007 football season.
In Dec. 2005 Hoeppner had a tumor removed from his right temple but in September of 2006 doctors noticed a cancerous growth in the same area on his brain. He had been undergoing radiation and chemotherapy treatments.
In a statement posted on the Indiana University website Greenspan said “This is a truly sad day for our community and all of our thoughts and prayers are with the Hoeppner family and to those whose lives he has touched.”
Hoeppner is survived by his wife and three children along with four grandchildren.
