Karel’s life is one crystalline moment after another. When she speaks about them, she uses her life experiences to provide a backdrop for the points she wants to make, you will need a tissue because you are going to die laughing.
Her humor covers some very important points and in her story she is going to talk about a time when she was struck down while playing softball. One minute she is playing the next she is laying in a hospital bed. She talks about her body not responding to mental commands and her face was sagging down to her shoulder. She had no ability to speak what only came out were a few slurred mumbles.
While in that state she looks at her husband and immediately had regrets that she had not told him she loved him more often while she could speak. Her story goes on to talk about the crystalline moments and how the opportunities from these moments changed her life. If it weren’t for a nurse that came in to take care of her she may have gone down a completely different path.
One of the books she has written is titled “Hitting our Stride”. In the book she shares her Reality Checklist of the Ten Essential Truths and what she has learned from her moments of clarity. One of the things she talks about is the importance to understand everything happens for a positive reason. The reason may not be immediately evident but at some point it will reveal the purpose. It is either something to teach her or something she is supposed to do for others. That is why it is important when a crystalline moment happens we examine what the opportunity is and look at what steps we are suppose to take.
Her story even though serious, is her hilarious way of talking about her inability to speak. She combines that with a very important message of how she got a chance to tell her family how she felt about them. She talks about how she moves from regret to gratitude for getting a second chance.
