In an interview with Access Hollywood, “The View” co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck shied away from comments she made a month earlier in which she described her relationship with former co-host Rosie O’Donnell as friendly.
Hasselbeck and O’Donnell had a heated exchange last month on “The View” in which Rosie called Elisabeth a coward for not defending her when she was criticized for comments she made regarding U.S. troops in Iraq. Hasselbeck shot back at Rosie saying the “"Don’t call me a coward. I sit here every day and open my heart and tell people exactly what I believe . . . It was not cowardly. It was honest . . . asking a rhetorical question? That is cowardly.”
As a result of that show Rosie asked for and was granted a release from her contract which was set to expire in June.
Shortly after the show aired Hasselbeck maintained that she was still friends with Rosie and the two had been communicating but during her interview with Access Hollywood she addressed the “friendship” in a different manner saying, “You know, truthfully, I think a friend is someone who you have positive communications with, so I don't know if I would define us as friends right now.”
Despite having opposing viewpoints on just about every issue under the sun Hasselbeck maintained that off the camera the two had a good relationship. The 30-year-old former Survivor contestant said her friendship with Rosie was “one of the closest relationships I had with anyone on the show.”
