Angelina Jolie will be appearing as a guest on Anderson Cooper 360° on Wednesday to discuss the world’s refugee crisis as well as human rights atrocities that have largely gone unnoticed.
In the interview with Cooper the recently elected member of the Council on Foreign Relations discusses the point in her life in which she felt compelled to take notice of the refugee plight. Jolie revealed that a trip to a refugee camp in Sierra Leone and Tanzania introduced her to the “real horrors in the world” and described a level of cruelty that she “did not know existed.”
Jolie tells Cooper much of her involvement in refugee work is a result of her first experience in Sierra Leone. After visiting the camp the activist said she never wanted to ask herself, “How did I not know this was happening” and as a result she has been a leading voice in bringing to light many of the human rights atrocities that refugees have faced.
Along her many humanitarian trips Jolie has adopted three children. He oldest son, Maddox, is from Cambodia, daughter Zahara is from Ethiopia, and youngest son Pax Thien was recently adopted from Vietnam. Jolie and her partner Brad Pitt have a biological daughter together as well, Shiloh.
Jolie’s interview with Anderson Cooper can be seen on Wednesday at 10:00 p.m. ET on CNN.
