Meducation® Licensed by Non-Profit Collaborative Pharmacy Now Provides Universal Medication Schedule Instructions on Prescriptions

Meducation® by Polyglot Systems’ has been licensed by NOVA ScriptsCentral, a non-profit collaborative pharmacy, to help patients better understand how to take their medication. NOVA ScriptsCentral is set up to provide medication and pharmaceutical care for uninsured patients in Northern Virginia, and now with Meducation, a population with varying levels of health literacy can get the same benefit from their medication.

Meducation® overcomes the health illiterate challenge by integrating with the pharmacy software provided by NOVA ScriptsCentral simplifying medication instructions and intuitive bottle labeling. Meducation instructions come in any of 19 languages, with larger type sizes, pictograms and access to supplemental videos, to make it easier for patients to understand how to take their medications.

Meducation is accessed from within NOVA ScriptsCentral’s Cerner pharmacy systems, so there is no interruption to pharmacist workflow.

NOVA ScriptsCentral prescription label now shows the patient’s specific does and schedule using the Universal Medication Schedule, or UMS. The UMS has been described by both the National Council of Prescription Drug Programs and the Institute of Medicine as being widely adopted across the country as a best practice that clearly conveys both the amount and the time of each dose. Now, with Meducation, UMS is further enhanced to provide intuitive pictograms of the time of day and amount of medicine to be taken.

Polyglot’s goal is to deliver equally efficient results to hospitals and pharmacies across the US to help them take critical steps towards improving the overall quality of patient care. There are 90 million Americans challenged by health jargon and or even English, this means offering instruction in multiple languages and simplified easy to understand formats is crucial to provide proper care for these Americans. Improving patient understanding and medication adherence leads to improved overall patient health outcoes, reduced healthcare costs and increased patient satisfaction.
