The prosecutor who fought Paris Hilton’s early release from jail claiming “special treatment” because of celebrity favoritism is now being accused of getting special treatment as well.
City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo finally acknowledged that his wife was caught driving on a suspended license when she was in a 2004 accident and was repaired with tax payers money. He admitted he and his wife drove a year without car insurance.
Delgadillo’s wife was arrested in 1998 after being caught driving uninsured, on a suspended license, and in an unregistered car. She was never put in jail. He admitted she had a 9-year-old arrest warrant until his wife’s lawyer took care of the matter on Wednesday morning. Documents also prove that the couple was late in paying parking fines for five tickets.
Delgadillo said at a news conference that he “mishandled the situation” and his actions were a breach of “the public trust.” He and his wife said they were “embarrassed.” Delgadillo said he did not know about the arrest warrant for his wife until it was reported by the Times.
Degadillo criticized the Sheriff Lee Baca for releasing
"If law enforcement officials are to enjoy the respect of those we are charged with protecting, we cannot tolerate a two-tiered jail system where the rich and powerful receive special treatment," Delgadillo said when Hilton was released.
