Chris Polk of AgForest of Georgia has been hired in Putnam County, Georgia to perform a shelterwood cut. This means that timber is removed until only 30 to 40 trees per acre are left. The remaining trees are left because of their superior quality, health and seed production. This ensures a better evolutionary path for the next generation of trees. These trees will produce new growth on the property naturally.
In four to eight years, new trees will be established and the timber that was left can be harvested to make room for new trees. These cuts typically yield good returns for landowners as well as benefit the wildlife.
Chris Polk has made AgForest of Georgia LLC a major force in the timber harvesting industry throughout the state of Georgia and the Southeastern United State. Chris Polk founded the company in 2002 and, since then, has gained notoriety among other timber harvesting companies, landowners and producers.
