A man to replace Rosie on “The View”?

Rumors are flying that Rosie’s replacement on “The View” could be a man. Two possible candidates have been mentioned: Mario Cantone and Ross Matthews. They are both going to appear as a guest host next month.

Cantone is known for his role as Charlotte’s friend Anthony on “Sex and the City.” Matthews is known as “Ross the Intern” on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.” Rosie and Matthews seem to be friends. The two have co-hosted each others blogs. She consented to him appearing in “The View” during a video blog.

Barbara Walters is said to be fond of Cantone. A ‘View’ insider said “Barbara’s really fond of Mario. So who knows?”  When Walters was presented a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame she would not give away any clues as to would fill the position. She said they have not made a decision and are still looking at different possibilities including Kathy Griffin, Whoopi Goldberg, and Sheri Shepherd.

Former co-host Debbie Matenopoulos has favored the idea of a male co-host ever since Rosie left the show. “It’s high time they put a gay man on that panel. They’ve said ‘We can’t put a man here.’ I disagree. Why does it have to be guys against girls? I have a better time and solve more problems sitting with my gay guy friends than my girlfriends!” she told PEOPLE.

A spokesperson from “The View” would not say if they are contemplating a man filling Rosie’s place on the view but did confirm that Cantone and Matthews will appear on the show as guest co-host. “No offer has been made to anyone at this point,” the spokesperson said.

Rosie may have an opportunity to fill Bob Barker’s position on “The Price is Right.” O’Donnell wrote on her blog that she would be meeting with the game shows team on Thursday. Barker, who recently retired, told reporters he had “no doubt “Rosie would be great at hosting the show. He said Wednesday that he was not endorsing or picking a replacement.

"I have not been asked for my opinion, nor have I expressed one," Barker said. "I think there are several candidates who could do the show, and Rosie is certainly one of them."
