Starr Tincup Co-authors Market Research Report, “2007 Market Research Trends,” with Equation Research

Findings Show Research Demand Increasing

Starr Tincup, an integrated marketing firm for business-to-business software and services companies, recently co-authored a research report with strategic partner, Equation Research. The report, “2007 Market Research Trends,” provides information on market research trends within the marketing and advertising communities.

Starr Tincup and Equation Research teamed up to survey nearly 65,000 professionals at brands and agencies in order to examine opinions about the traditional advertising agency model in the marketplace.

The bottom line? In the 21st century, market research has become “sexy.”

The findings indicate that demand for market research is increasing within the advertising and marketing industries. Companies are shifting their preferences and budgets away from traditional advertising and toward integrated marketing programs, and online surveys have become the market research tool of choice for both agencies and brands.

More than half of respondents feel that concepts like branding and visibility are subjective and are searching for more meaningful ways to quantify the benefit of marketing budgets. Other key findings in this report include:

  • Companies are shifting their preferences and budgets away from traditional advertising and toward marketing programs integrated across multiple media outlets.
  • Online surveys are currently the market research tool of choice for both agencies and brands; 80 percent of respondents utilize online surveys with relative frequency, and 41 percent indicate they utilize online surveys often.
  • While both agencies and brands feel that clients are more likely to drive demand, brands’ view that clients drive demand is more pronounced.

“People are not interested in reading another sales slick,” said Bret Starr, principal and co-founder of Starr Tincup. “Time and time again, we have found that people want information that can help them make better choices, work more productively and allocate their energy to those things that truly matter. We bring together industry experts and the responses of the community as a whole to create these valued reports.”
