Gianni Versace to Have Street Named After Him in Milan

The late fashion icon Gianni Versace will have a street named after him in the city that inspired many of his clothing lines. On July 15 the city of Milan will honor Versace by naming a public square after him.

Milan is planning several special events in July to commemorate the tenth anniversary of Versace’s death. He was gunned down outside his Miami home on July 15, 1997 by a crazed fan, Andrew Cunanan.

As part of the celebration Maurice Bejart will debut his new ballet “Grazie Gianni con Amore” which will be staged in La Scala. Versace designed several costumes used in the French choreographer’s productions.

Following the ballet a Gala dinner will be offered in Versace’s honor.
