The Baltimore Orioles will continue their search for a new manager after Joe Girardi declined an offer made by the club on Thursday.
Girardi interviewed with the Orioles on Tuesday, one day after the club fired Sam Perlozzo as their manager. It was reported that Girardi was offered the position and through Wednesday the two sides were working on a deal but by Thursday it was off.
In his first year as a manager Joe Girardi led a young Florida Marlins club that stayed in contention for a wildcard birth late into the season. Despite his success on the field Girardi and Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria couldn’t see eye-to-eye on several issues and the manager was fired. Shortly after being dismissed Girardi was voted the National League Manager of the Year.
Girardi will reportedly remain as a TV analyst for the New York Yankees baseball network YES.
Baltimore was said to have interviewed former Orioles catcher Rick Dempsey on Wednesday for the manager’s job.
